— jazz Bass is not a class of instrument, but the name of a specific Fender model that gave its name to this body shape. Compared to most other Fender shapes, such as the Stratocaster or the Precision Bass, the Jazz Bass has a more pronounced body asymmetry. For example, the bottom end (near the bridge) is clearly beveled relative to the strings, while in most other branded bodies it is almost perpendicular. Also note that the traditional type of pickup for such instruments is considered to be a single, although humbuckers are often used.
