Children's synthesizers
— synthesizers designed for children naturally differ in reduced size and simplified functionality. The keyboard of such models usually covers only 2 – 3 full octaves (plus "half an octave" for three black keys), polyphony (see the relevant paragraph) rarely reaches even a couple of dozen voices, and there is no need to talk about reliable sound. On the other hand, children's synthesizers are often equipped with convenient training programs, and the design itself makes them easier to learn than adult models: there are relatively few settings and keys, so that the child does not "get lost", and smaller keyboards with small keys are better suited for child's hand. However note that most models have the simplest passive mechanics and are not suitable for serious music training — but as a first instrument for a child, a children's synthesizer can be a good choice.
