Such control is much more versatile than mechanical buttons and knobs — you can display a wide variety of elements on the screen (buttons, sliders, rotary knobs, etc.). At the same time, from the point of view of ergonomics, in many cases (including synthesizers) it is more convenient to provide an abundance of individual buttons, knobs, etc., each of which is responsible for its own function, rather than combining many functions in a relatively small screen. In addition, for comfortable touch control, the screen itself must be quite large, and also, highly desirable, also in colour. As a result, this function has not received much distribution in synthesizers: it is found mainly among advanced workstations and is intended for some specific functions that are inconvenient to bring to traditional controls.Show
