— a specific kind of accessories, the purpose of which is obvious from the name: they are designed to increase the working length of an existing cable or to "move" the connection socket at a certain distance from its original location. The classic, simplest and most common version of the extension cable is a cable with the same type of connectors at both ends, where one connector is a plug (male), the second is a socket (female). However, in addition to this, there are also more specific design options. A relatively simple case is a set of a classic cable with connectors of the same type/format and an additional adapter to turn it into an extension cable. For example, a USB cable with male-male connectors can be equipped with a female-female module; when installing such a module, the cable turns into an extension cable.
A separate case is represented by active repeaters, which are mainly used to work with HDMI. Initially, the cable length in this interface is limited to a few meters, which is not always enough. To correct the situation, repeaters are used. Such a set usually consists of a transmitter and receiver, which are connected to each other by a standard network (LAN) cable; at the same time, the cable is often not included in the set at all – in the expectation that the customer chooses its length according to the specifics of the situation. Repeaters may have various additional features, such as an external infrared port for remote control of an HDMI signal source, or advanced capabilities for broadcasting video via a local network.
