— brilliant (cut diamond) is considered the "king of gems", and for good reason. Such stones are not cheap, but they look accordingly. One of the most striking features of a diamond is its bright luster with iridescent tints, which make even a colourless stone look very beautiful. Natural diamonds are most often transparent or yellowish, other options are less common. Synthetic diamonds are also produced, but they are still expensive (besides, the price is often inflated for purely image reasons). So, by definition, diamond earrings are not cheap, but this stone is a great illustration of wealth and status.
