Alexandrite

— a gemstone of the second order (that is, inferior in value only to the most expensive stones like diamonds or sapphires). An interesting feature of alexandrite is the so-called Pleochroism — the ability to change colour depending on the lighting: in daylight, such stones have a greenish or bluish tint, in the evening and artificial — red or purple. In addition, the colour may change even when the lighting direction changes.
