Sapphire

— one of the most expensive gemstones, belongs to the first order along with diamond and emerald, and the ruby is a "sibling" from a chemical point of view — both of these stones are a type of corundum (aluminium oxide). Jewelry value are sapphires with a pronounced colour — from light blue to dark blue. However, there are other colour options, including in red shades (except for lilac-red stones — they are classified as rubies).

Natural sapphire is valued very highly, which accordingly affects the price of jewelry. However, modern technologies allow the production of synthetic sapphires, which do not differ in beauty and quality from natural ones, but are much cheaper. Such stones are also called "hydrothermal", they are found even in inexpensive earrings.
