The new EOS 500D is equipped with a 15.1 megapixel APS-C sized CMOS sensor that prints large photos with fine detail and provides the widest cropping options. The camera allows the photographer to work in almost complete darkness due to the high ISO sensitivity (up to 3200, expandable to 12800). The DIGIC 4 processor has a unique noise suppression capability.
The launch of the EOS 500D heralds a new era of photography to capture the world. The ability to record video clips in HD 1080P also sets it apart from other models. For longer videos, you can use a lower resolution (720P or VGA). The built-in HDMI connector makes it easy to view your pictures and videos on any HDTV compatible TV.

The 3-inch Clear View LCD lets you review and rate your shots. The same type of 920,000-dot screen is used on the popular EOS 5D Mark II, enabling extremely detailed assessment, precise focus, and easy access to the EOS camera's menus. Live View mode allows you to shoot from uncomfortable angles, there is also a face detection function for autofocus correction. Perfect for beginners in DSLR photography, this camera features real-time autofocusing on the LCD.

Fast processing and focus
The DIGIC 4 processor provides high-speed shooting — up to 3.4 fps, bursts of up to 170 shots in JPEG 1 format. A wide-field autofocus system with 9 f / 2.8 sensors with a centre crosshair allows you to capture an image in a fraction of a second.
The DIGIC 4 processor, working together with the CMOS sensor, provides excellent noise reduction, while 14-bit processing promotes natural images with natural colours. Other advantages of DIGIC 4 include short turn-on times and near-permanent image review after shooting, which is extremely convenient for the photographer.
