Model overview based on user reviews
The Chieftec Proton series offers a range of power supply units (PSUs) that are generally well-received for their affordable price and quiet operation. Users appreciate the efficiency and quality of cables, with many noting the modular design as a significant advantage. The PSUs come with Bronze certification and include all types of protection, making them suitable for budget to mid-range builds. However, some users have reported issues with short cables, particularly for ATX cases with bottom-mounted power supplies, and a few have experienced whistling noises during stress tests. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Chieftec Proton series is considered a reliable choice for those seeking a cost-effective PSU with decent performance.

Chieftec does it right
12 May 2021
On my previous computer, I also had a Chieftec APS-750C, worked flawlessly for 9 years and still running, satisfied with the brand.
Surge Protection
Overcurrent Protection
Short Circuit Protection
Modular Connectivity
Bronze Certification
The 4+4 pin CPU power cable is somewhat short, I had to stretch it directly as there's not enough for cable management. The cables are closely fitted to the HDD bay, but it's tolerable in the Aerocool Aero One Frost case.

great model, love it
16 October 2020
I’ve been using it for almost three years, at first it was on a mining farm, 4 1060 video cards and a processor were powered from it, now it’s in my home computer, it works well, I bought it in January 2018 for 90 € for a computer neververse, the wires are long

Got to have it

In my opinion, it's the best one, both 500 and 600 can handle any mid-budget build with a graphics card UP TO 2070 super. Got it for 4k rubles.
I was considering the be quiet! System Power 9 (same price), but something bothered me as its graphics card support is only up to 24A, whereas here it's 50A. Although the reviews are also okay, I have a feeling they might be inflated, it's be quiet! after all.

Good capacitors
Components with a modern converter
Thick and black wires, clearly no cost-cutting, some in braided sleeves.
I didn't see it. Many people write that the short wires for standard ATX cases with a bottom-mounted power supply are nothing like that. Photo as an attachment.

King of the middle class

The Chieftec range is full of power supplies for a wide variety of tastes, but even in expensive models, the company always pursues the same goal - to offer more for the same money. For example, the Chieftec Proton BDF-650C, despite the price of $65, has much more with the company's flagship models than with economy class power supplies: here you have modern circuitry based on DC-DC converters, and an efficiency of 85% , and a + 12V line with a power indicator at the level of the power supply itself.

Line power +12 V is equal to the nominal value of the PSU

In tests, this model proved to be a solid five. With loads on the +12 V, +5 V and +3.3 V power lines, the ripples were barely noticeable, and the voltage remained in excellent condition and did not sag even when connected to a PC with a powerful hardware configuration. Also pleased with his tact and unobtrusiveness. Up to the 150W mark, the Proton BDF-650C is very quiet. Between 150 and 250 watts, it can be described as quiet. Above a load of 250W, the sound from the fan becomes more audible, but remains at a comfortable below-average level. Given the traditional "noisiness" of power supplies with a certificate of 80+ Bronze, this is respectable. Although he is far from “gold” and even more so “platinum” in this regard.

Only the Essentials

Other than that, it's a solid mid-range model with no bells and whistles. Perfect for those who do not want to overpay for a cooler certificate, extra Watts of power and do not need things like a ball bearing cooler or Japanese capacitors. You only pay for the essentials, like a full set of protections or detachable cables. Considering all this, as well as the high bandwidth of the +12V line, the Proton is perfect for a near-top gaming configuration with a single graphics card and moderate overclocking of components.
