King of the middle class

The Chieftec range is full of power supplies for a wide variety of tastes, but even in expensive models, the company always pursues the same goal - to offer more for the same money. For example, the Chieftec Proton BDF-650C, despite the price of $65, has much more with the company's flagship models than with economy class power supplies: here you have modern circuitry based on DC-DC converters, and an efficiency of 85% , and a + 12V line with a power indicator at the level of the power supply itself.

Line power +12 V is equal to the nominal value of the PSU

In tests, this model proved to be a solid five. With loads on the +12 V, +5 V and +3.3 V power lines, the ripples were barely noticeable, and the voltage remained in excellent condition and did not sag even when connected to a PC with a powerful hardware configuration. Also pleased with his tact and unobtrusiveness. Up to the 150W mark, the Proton BDF-650C is very quiet. Between 150 and 250 watts, it can be described as quiet. Above a load of 250W, the sound from the fan becomes more audible, but remains at a comfortable below-average level. Given the traditional "noisiness" of power supplies with a certificate of 80+ Bronze, this is respectable. Although he is far from “gold” and even more so “platinum” in this regard.

Only the Essentials

Other than that, it's a solid mid-range model with no bells and whistles. Perfect for those who do not want to overpay for a cooler certificate, extra Watts of power and do not need things like a ball bearing cooler or Japanese capacitors. You only pay for the essentials, like a full set of protections or detachable cables. Considering all this, as well as the high bandwidth of the +12V line, the Proton is perfect for a near-top gaming configuration with a single graphics card and moderate overclocking of components.
