The smallest model in the fifth generation of multisport watches with a case diameter of 42 mm. It looks most harmonious on thin wrists (for example, on a woman's hand). For the sake of small size, I had to sacrifice a little battery life: 13 hours in continuous geopositioning mode using GPS satellites versus 24 hours for the standard version of Garmin Fenix 5 and up to 8 days in watch mode.
The wearable gadget is equipped with a full set of sensors for collecting a large amount of information about training (including a thermometer), and a heart rate monitor on board the model measures the number of contractions of the heart muscle every 2 seconds. The display of smartwatches displays only 64 colours, but thanks to transflective technology, it retains excellent readability in the sun. The case of the device is reliably protected from water penetration when immersed to a depth of 100 m, which, in turn, does not mean support for the ability to engage in deep-sea diving in the watch.

A new generation of watches from a popular manufacturer
In 2017, the American company Garmin introduced the Fenix 5 line of smartwatches, it includes three models: Garmin Fenix 5, Garmin Fenix 5X and Garmin Fenix 5S. For such a long time, the line has not lost its relevance at all, even more people have been recruited into the army of Garmin fans.

The Fenix 5S model is positioned as a watch for sports. At the same time, it is one of the most compact models among smartwatches. Fenix 5S looks very presentable and elegant. The design combines both classic and sporty notes. Perhaps the appearance was influenced by the fact that the model was presented as a female, although in reality it is very unisex and will suit everyone with a small wrist.
Almost Swiss quality
The main area of the watch is occupied by a transflective display, which is protected by mineral glass. The assembly of the watch is on top — it is of high quality and good quality, and the navigation buttons have a pleasant move. A comfortable silicone strap completes the picture. It is comfortable to put on, does not collect dust and does not stick to the skin, and a fairly tight clasp firmly fixes the watch on your hand.
Multisport set
Garmin is famous for its multi-sport watches for a reason: Fenix 5S, in addition to GPS tracking for athletes or cyclists, is endowed with many functions for measuring a variety of sports activities. Here you have a mode for playing golf, climbing, snowboarding, mountain (and not only) skiing, swimming both in the pool and in open water, and many others. To synchronize with a smartphone, the convenient Garmin Connect application is used with many useful little things like a training diary, a block with tips, etc.
Flexible adjustment of sports metrics
During sports, you can choose for yourself what indicators will be displayed on the display: temperature, step or pulse rate, pace, calories, atmospheric pressure and many others. Also, in the process of training, you can set up and plan intervals (warm-up-training-rest), the number of approaches, etc. Intervals can be configured both by time and by pressing a button.
Maximum smartphone integration
The Garmin Fenix 5S has a non-touch display, so navigation through the device is carried out by five mechanical buttons. At the same time, the watch shows almost all text notifications for both Android and iOS without any problems. Notifications can be read, but answering because of the physical buttons will not work. It also fires navigational notifications like Google Maps labels. In addition, you can view the weather and calendar from the watch, control the player, and even find your dog if it has a paired device.

High battery life
The battery performed very well! With active use, the battery lasts for 3-4 days. It was a little sad that there is no Wi-Fi in such an expensive device, but this is one of the reasons for the high battery life.
