A simplified smartphone from the flagship Galaxy S20 family with the “love for the fans” of the South Korean brand. This is expressed in the Fan Edition prefix. The model has acquired a flat screen with a diagonal of 6.5", FullHD + resolution (2400x1080 pixels) and an Infinity-O style teardrop notch (a small hole in the centre of the upper lobe). The substrate for the display of the gadget was a juicy Super AMOLED type matrix with support for HDR10 + and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
The high-speed “flight” of the smartphone is provided by a powerful “under-the-hood” bundle of the Exynos 990 chipset (or Snapdragon 865 for the US market) and 8/128 GB of expandable memory. A key simplification in the design of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is a simple 8 MP telephoto as part of a “three-eyed” main camera. In general, it is "built" in the format of 12 + 12 + 8 MP. The smartphone makes self-portraits on a 32 MP front camera lens. The model has an under-screen fingerprint sensor, NFC-chip, dust and water protection of the case according to the IP68 standard. It also claims support for fast (25 W), wireless and reverse charging. As standard, the device comes with a 15W charger.

Almost a flagship at an affordable price
With the release of the flagship Galaxy S20 family, Samsung decided to change its strategy and instead of the usual Lite model, it added a representative of the new FE (Fan Edition) series to the range. This is a smartphone aimed at fans of the brand who want to get the most features at a more affordable price. And the Galaxy S20 FE really meets these criteria: it inherits many of the features of the flagships Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus, it costs much less, and the compromises that were made for the sake of reduction in price are not too critical.
Externally, the device is very similar to the older brothers, and the flat display will definitely appreciate the opponents of rounded edges. It is given out only by thicker frames, an enlarged “chin” and a plastic back panel, which, nevertheless, is not easily soiled, pleasant to the touch and does not slip in your hand like glass. But all this fades against the backdrop of pluses. First of all, this is a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400x1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz (but you can switch to 60 Hz to save battery power). On such a screen, it is convenient to read books, scroll through the social network feed, play games, watch movies — whatever, since the colours are bright and saturated, and the picture is smooth. Also, NFC, stereo speakers with loud and surround sound, an under-screen fingerprint scanner that works quite quickly, a 4500 mAh battery (even more than the Galaxy S20) with support for wired and wireless charging (with a power of 25 and 15 W, respectively) can be recorded as advantages. ), 4.5 W reverse charging, with which the smartphone can wirelessly recharge other gadgets, such as headphones or smartwatches, and IP68 water and dust protection, like older models. The latter allows not only to use the device in the rain, but also to completely immerse it in water to a depth of 1.5 metres for a maximum of 30 minutes. In addition, it is worth noting a large selection of colours that will attract the attention of young people — from more delicate and restrained to bright ones.
Exynos vs Snapdragon
In the ranks of fans of Samsung products, complaints about proprietary Exynos processors have not stopped for a long time. The fact is that the company traditionally releases versions of flagships with Exynos and Snapdragon for different markets, but only the first ones get to us. Users say that Exynos chips are worse in performance and power efficiency. The Galaxy S20 FE received an eight-core Exynos 990, which is slightly inferior to the top solutions from Qualcomm, but in everyday tasks you will definitely not notice this: the interface is fast and smooth, without any slowdowns, especially if you do not run demanding games. However there are still some complaints — for overheating: with a serious load and even during charging or filming, the case can noticeably heat up.
The camera is simpler
The main camera of the smartphone cannot boast of the presence of fashionable periscopes and additional sensors for macro photography and depth assessment, but this did not affect the quality of the pictures too much. The camera includes a 12-megapixel sensor with optical stabilization, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and an 8 MP telephoto module, also with optical stabilization and a claimed 3x zoom. The set is simpler than that of more expensive flagships, but the pictures are of high quality, without noise, with natural colours. Particularly useful night and automatic mode for those who do not want to understand the settings. The front camera is 32-megapixel, it is located in a neat round cutout in the display.
