In a word, the perfect lens for macro photography. I bought it because I got into taking pictures of bugs, flowers, and the like. I was choosing between this and the 50 macro, which is cheaper, but one fine day I convinced myself to go for this masterpiece. I love everything about the lens, from how it is assembled and feels to the results it delivers. I also appreciated that the lens has stabilization, so you can even try shooting handheld and still get decent photos. It's great that the lens is dust and moisture resistant, meaning snow and rain won't be a problem for it. Highest mark
The lens really gets high marks in profile tests and from real owners. According to the results of testing the lens by experts from the DxOMark resource, its sharpness received the highest scores at all main aperture values. The level of sharpness, as expected, began to drop only from f / 11 aperture.
Design
The lens design has 15 lenses in 11 groups, two of which are floating. They are moved by a direct drive mechanism, which allows you to achieve high focus accuracy, so important in macro photography. On the lens body is a wide sliding focus ring, with which you can switch from manual to automatic mode almost instantly.
Focus
The minimum distance for focus is 28 cm. You can select the focus mode using a three-position lever: full mode completely unleashes autofocus hands, the “from 28 cm to 50 cm” mode allows you to focus on nearby objects, and “from 50 cm to infinity” — more distant. By the way, thanks to the 9-blade aperture, the lens draws a very colorful bokeh that will effectively emphasize any portrait.
Stabilizer
Japanese engineers have not forgotten about the image stabilizer, which also fits into the all-protective lens housing. It will serve as an excellent addition to the in-camera stabilizer of Sony Alpha A7 II series full-frame mirrorless cameras.
No flaws
The only drawback of the lens is its cost — no other significant drawbacks have yet been found. The lens will be an excellent solution for macro photography, as well as a true companion in the portrait photography genre.
