— moisture-resistant elastic compound for bathrooms and kitchens, used to seal joints around bathtubs, sinks, shower trays, faucets, countertops, and toilets to prevent water and dirt from getting into gaps and mold from developing. Most often, it is silicon with antifungal additives: acetic formulas adhere well to ceramics, glass, and acrylic, but are undesirable near natural stone and colored metals; neutral ones are safer for surfaces and have almost no odor. Unlike universal acrylics, sanitary silicones do not let water through, retain elasticity for years, and do not require painting (and cannot be painted). However, they require a clean, dry edge and a day for full curing (they are not used for aquariums due to biocides). It is practical to choose compounds labeled "sanitary," "anti-mold," and with a protection class for wet areas — this way the joint will remain white and sealed longer.
