Facade sealants

Facade

— a compound for external joints and cracks designed to withstand ultraviolet, rain, frost, and seasonal wall shifts. Its purpose is to prevent water and air from passing through the joint while maintaining flexibility and adhesion to mineral substrates: concrete, brick, plaster, stone, fiber cement, metal, and PVC slopes. Unlike "universal" and interior acrylics, exterior formulas (MS-polymer, polyurethane, neutral silicone, acrylic-silane modified) better withstand joint movements, don't chalk in the sun, and often allow for painting with facade paint; acidic silicones are not recommended for outdoor joints due to corrosion and weak compatibility with mineral substrates. Typical applications include the perimeter of windows and doors outside, expansion joints of panels, abutments of slopes and window sills, filling "hairline" cracks in plaster; for durability, a clean substrate, primer in porous areas, and a sealant cord for proper depth are important.
