— lenses of this type have a constant aperture that does not change regardless of the mode of operation. By definition, this includes all prime lenses (see "Lens Type"), as well as some advanced zoom lenses. In the latter case, when zooming, the dimensions of the lens remain unchanged, and the front lens is usually fixed; it is these models that should be chosen for working with gradient filters.
