Drain pump

— a pump for pumping out condensate — water that settles on the elements of the air conditioner during cooling operation.

In many models of air conditioners, an inclined tube is enough to drain condensate, through which water flows by itself outside the room or into a special container. However, in some cases — for example, if the indoor unit is installed far in the depths of the room — it is necessary to use moisture traps of complex shape, with ups and downs. It is for such cases that the drain pump is intended: it creates a pressure that allows the removed moisture to overcome the bends and rises of the moisture drain.

Note that most models with this function are ducted or cassette air conditioners (see "Installation") — it is among such devices that the need for a drain pump most often arises.
