The 1920X processor is an intermediate model with 12 cores and 24 virtual threads. This is far from a record for the Threadripper family, but already significantly more than that of Ryzen 7. And most importantly, the Threadripper 1920X costs one and a half times cheaper than its direct competitor from the Intel camp — also a twelve-core Core i9-7920X.

Not a toy at all

For a gaming PC, even with a bunch of two or three video cards, the 24-thread Threadripper 1920X is clearly overkill. His destiny is professional batch photo processing, three-dimensional modeling and especially video editing. After all, the widespread opinion that now video editing is carried out by the graphics card (CUDA, OpenCL, NVENC and VCE technologies) is only partly true. The graphics card really noticeably speeds up video editing, but the lion's share of operations, as before, is performed by the processor. Moreover, professional software, unlike games, is well parallelized into numerous computational threads.

To create large-scale projects, such as many hours of 4K video with a lot of special effects, just 128 GB of RAM can be required, the installation of which is supported by the Threadripper 1920X. Even though motherboards for the Intel LGA2066 socket are less expensive than AMD TR4 (both platforms do not have a boxed cooler), the Threadripper processor and motherboard bundle is still a quarter more profitable. And with such numerous cores and threads, the higher performance of each of them is almost completely leveled by Intel.
