Meet the Ryzen 5600X: 6 cores, 12 threads, turbo boost up to 4.6 GHz
Let's start with the basics. The younger Ryzen 5 5600X is equipped with six multi-threaded Zen 3 cores, 32MB of L3 cache and a dual-channel DDR4-3200 controller. Its base frequency is 3.7 GHz, which can be boosted up to 4.6 GHz. The nominal TDP of the Ryzen 5 5600X is 65W. The official price is $299.
Impressive single-core performance
According to the first tests, the advantage of the new 6-core processor over the Ryzen 5 3600X chip in different scenarios is 15 – 25%, in some cases reaching a 40% difference. For example, in the Cinebench R20 single-threaded test, the novelty scored 600 points, which is an excellent result in itself, and it is 17% higher than the results of its predecessor. In other non-gaming benchmarks related to pure computing power (math, cryptography, data processing), the younger Vermeer is able to effectively compete with the 8-core Intel Core i9-9900K. On the one hand, this is damn cool, on the other hand, the prices at the start, plus or minus, are the same. If we talk about games, then the new product shows more than a 15 percent increase in performance compared to the Ryzen 5 3600X.
All juices are already squeezed out
With overclocking, the situation is ambiguous and depends on luck. The guys from ITHardware managed to get the frequency of 4.8 GHz across all cores without any problems when the voltage increased to 1.27 V. With a slight increase in voltage, the processor floated and further overclocking turned out to be unstable. But the Poles from TechPowerUp were less fortunate, they were able to squeeze out only 4.6 GHz from the Ryzen 5 5600X across all 6 cores. To do this, we had to increase the voltage to 1.45 V. That is, this is not so much overclocking as a stable turbo boost. Power consumption is matched to the level of older models. It seems that, like last time, the new Ryzen are working to the limit. To be fair, all manipulations took place while cooling with a standard cooler.
