The I/O chip contains a 2nd generation RDNA graphics unit, as well as DDR5 and PCI Express 5.0 controllers. Those wishing to upgrade to Zen 4 this fall will be offered motherboards with AMD X670E, X670 and B650 logic.

The model is part of the new family of AMD Raphael chips (Zen 4 architecture, 5-nm process), introduced to the public in 2022. The key difference of Zen 4 from previous generations is the transition to the new AM5 socket and DDR5 RAM with a maximum clock speed of 5200 MHz.
Like its predecessors on Zen 2 and Zen 3 architectures, the Ryzen 9 7950X features 16 physical cores supporting multi-threading technology, which, through core virtualization, can temporarily increase their number to 32. The processor starts at a base frequency of 4.5 GHz, and when power is lacking, it activates Turbo Boost technology, accelerating up to 5.7 GHz.
The third level cache size is 64 MB, and the total L2 and L3 cache volume reaches 80 MB. Due to increased clock speeds, larger cache size, and optimized cache architecture, the single-core performance of Zen 4 cores compared to the third generation has grown by 29%. To ensure this monster is not limited, AMD increased the processor's standard power consumption to 170W.
For its cooling, the company strongly recommends moving away from even the coolest tower cooler and investing in a full-fledged liquid cooling system with at least two active coolers. To our knowledge, this is the first consumer processor for which the manufacturer gives such a recommendation. Considering the processor's price, the cost of AM4 boards, and the expense of DDR5 memory, this model is primarily aimed at overclocking enthusiasts who won't hesitate to pay extra for performance that's excessive for most people.
