As usual, after the release of a new Intel socket, most manufacturers start with advanced solutions, which, however, are not always distinguished by an affordable price. ASRock Z890 Pro-A, although part of the "basic" RPO series, impresses with its characteristics, close to those found in overclocker motherboards. It is built on the powerful Z890 chipset and has a price that may be a little higher than many users expect.
Powerful 20-phase power converter
The board is equipped with a 16+1+1+1+1-phase VRM with Dr.MOS technology for powering the processor and video card, which guarantees excellent stability of the system when overclocking components. Important system elements that may be subject to overheating are protected by massive radiators. The board supports four DDR5 DIMM slots, providing operation with memory with a maximum frequency of 8666 MHz and a total capacity of up to 256 GB. Thanks to the dual-channel mode and XMP support, it is possible to achieve high memory bandwidth, which, according to tests, significantly affects the performance of new Intel processors.
Support for video cards and SSDs with PCI-E 5.0
The ASRock Z890 Pro-A is equipped with one PCI-E 5.0 slot for a video card and four M.2 ports with different interfaces: one of them is Blazing M.2 (PCI-E 5.0), and the other three are Hyper M.2 (PCI-E 4.0). HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 ports are provided for image output. One of the USB connectors supports Thunderbolt 4, which is the standard for the Z890 chipset. The Dragon RTL8125BG controller with a throughput of 2.5 Gbps is used for network connection. However, this model does not have a wireless receiver.
