A multifunctional micro-ATX motherboard from Asus, which is part of the PRIME line and belongs to the middle class by its nature. It is based on the Intel B660 chipset, equipped with an LGA 1700 socket and is ready to work with the latest 12th generation Intel Core/Pentium/Celeron multi-core processors. As with other boards in the PRIME series, the emphasis is on the quality of the materials used, the reliability of work and the possibility of in-depth customization. In particular, an advanced cooling system with VRM and PCH radiators is used, as well as hybrid connectors for connecting coolers and proprietary Fan Xpert software with an advanced level of control and cooling settings. The element base of Asus PRIME B660M-K D4 is designed using high-quality MOSFETs, chokes and capacitors. Ad...vanced UEFI mode with a concise graphical interface, many in-depth settings and a search system gives a free hand to those users who prefer to control and configure all the technical nuances on their own. The internal layout includes four slots for installing RAM (maximum speed 5333 MHz), two M.2 slots with support for the high-speed PCI-E 4.0 interface, as well as four ports for installing SATA 3 drives and a PCI-E 16x slot for a graphics card. All this makes it an equally interesting option both for use in a work computer and for installation in a multimedia or gaming system.

LGA 1700 socket and Intel B660 chipset

The Asus PRIME B660M-A D4 is a great example of a modern mid-range gaming PC motherboard. It is equipped with an LGA 1700 processor socket, which is friendly with 12th and 13th generation Intel Core processors. The brain center is the B660 chipset. Up to 128GB of DDR4 RAM with XMP support can be installed in the 4 available slots. For compact micro-ATX motherboards, this is not a mandatory element of the program; most competitors get by with two slots. It is important to note that the maximum RAM clock speed can reach 5333 MHz, which is several times higher than the speed of standard DDR4 strips and is very close to DDR5.

Compact board with big features

Despite the fact that the Asus PRIME B660M-A D is an "office" motherboard according to the passport, its positioning looks blurry. For example, it is equipped with a fairly high-quality 8-phase power converter and a PCI-E 4.0 data exchange interface, its M.2 slots are covered with radiators, and the video card slot is reinforced with metal fiber. Therefore, you can not worry too much that the controller of the SSD drive will overheat, and the three-slot video card will one day fail and bend under its own weight.

Great option for mid-range gaming PCs

All this allows us to consider it as the basis for a mid-range gaming system with a Core i5 processor, a Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics card and a fast SSD drive. Using a more expensive and complex "motherboard" from the conditional ROG Strix series for mid-range assemblies is not very advisable. A profile board with a Z-series chip will cost at least 2 times more, and a conventional Core i7 processor will not give a significant increase in FPS compared to Core i5. A more competent decision would be to invest this money in a video card. In general, this is a great option for people who are looking for an inexpensive motherboard from the “cheap, cheerful, reliable” category and do not plan to manually overclock components.
