Compared with tailor’s chalk, a marker produces a fine, legible line without dust, and compared with regular felt-tip pens it doesn’t bleed into the fibers and is formulated for cotton, linen, and blends. In practice, for sewing choose water- or air-erasable options (test on a scrap before washing); for drawing, use permanent or heat-set fabric markers, set with heat as directed, and wash the item on a gentle cycle to preserve color and outlines.
