The famous studio headphones from the Japanese brand, which were created for studio work, but over time earned the reputation of the "killer" Beats. Many music lovers have tried out the honest, cheerful and never clinical sound of this series and began to recommend them to friends and acquaintances as universal and relatively inexpensive music lovers headphones.
As befits monitor headphones, the character of this series is neutral, but not tiring. And in terms of the level of detail, older models (we are talking about the ATH-M50x) are often compared with the legendary Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro. The purity of the sound, the elaboration of the panorama and the detail of the sound are plus or minus the same. But the resistance is low, they play with smartphones without rocking.
But not with a single sound. Since the models are designed for professional use, the Japanese are confused with the strength and convenience of the design. Usually, representatives of this series sit comfortably on their heads, their ears do not sweat during the heat (thanks to velour ear pads), they get tired less during the heat, and the metal frame, judging by numerous reviews, is able to outlive its owner. The cups are most often rotatable, the design is foldable, the cable is removable, and the kit includes a case or carrying case. In general, the convenience here is really taken care of.
The basis of this studio series are the ATH models: ATH-M20x, ATH-M30x, ATH-M50x, etc. The younger ATH-M20x offer high-quality, "adult" sound of the studio level at a bargain price of $65. But they buy them most often just for listening to music. But the older ATH-M50x and ATH-M70x are, without any reservations, studio models that are loved by many eminent sound engineers around the world. By the way, in 2018 Audio-Technica updated the line, releasing several variations with open designs or wireless connection.
