This technology is very popular in modern technology, built-in Bluetooth modules are available in all smartphones, almost all tablets and laptops, as well as many other devices. Because of this, Bluetooth headphones are often able to connect directly, without any additional equipment (and separately sold adapters are available for non-Bluetooth devices). Initially, the sound quality with this connection was not high, but modern headphones are increasingly using special technologies like aptX and aptxHD (see “Bluetooth Features”) to compensate for this moment. The communication range is usually at least a couple of metres, theoretically it can reach 20 m or even more. Headphones may support different versions of Bluetooth; they are all compatible in key functions, including audio transmission, and for the features of some of the newer standards, see "Bluetooth Specifications".
