A multi-chip layout is used; TSMC's 4nm technology is now used to produce chiplets with x86 cores. The I/O chip is still manufactured using the 6nm process technology.
Flagship processors of the Granite Ridge family, introduced by AMD in 2024, are optimized for the AM5 platform and based on the advanced Zen 5 microarchitecture. The Zen 5 architecture, utilizing a chiplet layout, allows for the use of different manufacturing processes for individual elements of the processor. Compared to Zen 4, it offers improved energy efficiency, reduced latency, and a single-core performance increase of up to 16%.
The Ryzen 9 Granite Ridge series includes several variants with different core counts: 12 cores and 24 threads or 16 cores and 32 threads. The clock speeds of the processors range from 4.4 – 4.5 GHz in base mode to 5.6 – 5.7 GHz in Boost mode. The cache volume and thermal design power (TDP) vary depending on the model: TDP ranges from 120 – 170 W. These processors are positioned as flagship solutions for users needing maximum performance in gaming, 3D graphics creation, high-resolution video rendering, AI work, and other resource-intensive tasks. The family supports DDR5 memory with speeds up to 5600 MHz and a PCIe 5.0 interface, ensuring high-speed data transfer between key system components. Additionally, AMD Smart Access Memory technology enhances the interaction between the processor, RAM, and video card memory, positively impacting overall performance.
