Google Pixel 5a 128 GB
![]() |
The company Google has established a tradition of releasing not only flagship smartphones but also more affordable models with the "a" suffix in the name, which are popular for offering a balanced price-to-quality ratio. The successor to Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a 5G may not boast any radical changes, but it does have some interesting features. Primarily, it includes IP67 water protection — for the first time in a non-flagship device from the company.
Surely, submerging the phone in water is not recommended, but it can withstand splashes and raindrops. Externally, the phone is nearly indistinguishable from its predecessor, inheriting the signature simple and modest "Pixel" style: a plastic-coated back cover, minimal screen bezels, a circular cutout for the front camera, a regular rear fingerprint scanner, and a subtle square main camera block.
However, the performance of Google Pixel 5a is strong: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor handles any daily tasks and allows for gaming, especially in conjunction with 6/128 GB of memory. Don't forget about the pure Android with several years of guaranteed updates—many people specifically choose Google smartphones for this reason. The model supports 5G networks, has NFC for contactless payments, stereo speakers, and retains the 3.5mm audio jack, which many manufacturers have been removing. The 6.34-inch OLED display unfortunately cannot boast a high refresh rate — only 60 Hz. However, the camera follows all of Google's traditions: with just two modules (a 12.2 MP sensor and a 16 MP "ultra-wide"), it provides good quality photos and videos under any conditions. Battery life is managed by a 4680 mAh battery supporting 18W charging.

A shortening android like me maw. Up to which one is an iPhone, and in front of it is the same pixel. I know that Google smartphones are the smartest in terms of interface, cold in terms of heating and bombing in terms of cameras. All the same, the main cameraphone of the world is a pixel. Batteries last for 1 active, 2 days inactive battery. Shvidka charging. Stereo sound, waterproof. Yakisna Oled matrix. Having taken the camera from my friend's galaxy s22, I looked up at the fact that the Samsung is distinguished by the quality of the photo, so it is the wine's flagship, and the 5a is a representative of the middle class of court years ago. Also, the photos fit more lower on the iPhone 13pro, especially in the night mode. I know that the magic of Google is power. I've been more than welcome to work on photos and compare them with other flagships Smooth robot, never heating up yet when playing games on charge, 13 android, better camera Not showing for 2 months |
I bought a smartphone, US version. Previously, I used purely budget Xiaomi phones, one of which I flashed with stock Android, and I liked this firmware, it has both pros and cons. Currently, I have the January update of Android 12 on my Pixel. Let's go in order. Regarding the firmware, I find the "Do Not Disturb" mode very useful, as it does not show calls at all (a wonderful feature when on vacation), but calls from favorite contacts will be displayed. I also liked the advanced notification settings. Overall, I recommend the smartphone for purchase, it's not at all worse than the high-end Samsung and other flagships over 50k. - The battery can indeed last up to two days, no doubt about it. I once noticed that for two consecutive days there was high power consumption. In the monitoring, I saw that total commander was draining the battery; I limited its activity and everything returned to normal. Adaptive charging until the alarm does its job. Accubattery shows the battery health at 103%. - Screen, there's Gorilla Glass 3 here if I'm not mistaken. I've never held a phone with such a screen in my life; an additional film or glass is not even needed, they would only ruin the smartphone like a case. Without a case, the phone can slip out of dry hands, but I had to buy a case to stick a magnet on it for the car holder. I often go without a case because it looks nice and feels great. - Sound, excellent stereo. - Microphone. - Haptic feedback. - NFC has stopped working several times over the past two months, requiring a smartphone restart. Also, the magnet on the case noticeably reduced the NFC response speed. I still couldn't figure out the exact reason for the malfunction. There was no time to sort out at the checkout counter, and turning NFC off and on through the dropdown didn't help. - Bluetooth: I often use headphones and have no issues here, but there are problems with the car radio. It connects automatically but often experiences playback freezes in the first 5 minutes of use. If you disable the "calls" function on the car radio device, the phone no longer connects automatically to the radio. - Camera: I've heard that there's no better camera than on Pixel, but I was disappointed. Compared to my last phone, there's not much zoom, and the photos sometimes come out dull and blurred. I conducted comparisons, taking photos on my phone and transferring them to an iPhone for comparison. The photo taken on Pixel looks more vibrant on the iPhone; the screen might be a factor, as there are only 3 color mode settings, and none help. Additionally, the photo appears slightly more vibrant (like on the iPhone) if you set the brightness to full, but at such brightness, especially in a dark room, it strains the eyes and affects vision. The screen display and camera remain a mystery to me, and for 45k, I expected something different from what everyone talks about. I couldn't find anything helpful in the settings (if anyone has had this problem and knows how to solve it, please contact me at zolotuhindimitrii at gmail dot com, I would appreciate it). use Google Pixel 5a few months |
A very niche phone. Especially in Ukraine. After breaking the screen, it took a long time to find a technician willing to repair it. Additionally, after one of the operating system updates, problems started with the camera. After focusing on an object and taking the first shot, the focus freezes. It's impossible to focus the camera on objects either closer or further away. You have to close the camera app and reopen it. Camera. Fast focus, night mode. Comfortable in the hand. Pure Android The camera after updates and maintainability. Finding a case is also another task with an asterisk. |
Traditional Pixel
Recently, Google has been releasing every year not only flagship-level smartphones, but also simpler (which does not mean cheap) models with the prefix “a” in the title. In 2021, it's the Pixel 5a, which has all the makings of a top-of-the-line gadget and just a few minor nuances to ignore given the not-too-high price tag. But first, about the design — we have a classic "pixel" in the spirit of maximum simplicity and minimalism. To be honest, the eye doesn’t even have anything to catch on, but this is the highlight: this design has its fans, and there are many of them, but if you give some frills, we advise you to pay attention to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, here there, for sure, Google designers diverged in earnest (in a good way, of course). But the younger “five” turned out to be not too overall and quite light, and even IP67 water protection was delivered – by the way, for the first time in a Google smartphone of a non-flagship level. Swimming with the phone is still not worth it, but it will definitely survive splashes and rain.
Almost the entire front panel is occupied by a 6.34-inch OLED display with small bezels and an inconspicuous circular cutout for the front camera. It seems that for the sake of economy, they did not add an increased hertz — here the image refresh rate is 60 Hz. But the manufacturer did not stint on the rest: here you have a 3.5 mm audio jack, stereo speakers, and a classic fingerprint scanner on the rear panel. Yes, this is not a fancy under-screen sensor, but it works quickly and reliably — almost like a Swiss watch. Perhaps, only the location of the lock / power button has become unsuccessful — it is located a little high, so it is often impossible to reach it with your thumb.
Great camera
Everyone loves Google smartphones for their cameras, and the Pixel 5a won't disappoint. He has a rather modest set: a rear camera with two modules (12.2 MP and 16 MP "wide") and optical stabilization, as well as an 8-megapixel front camera. Against the background of the now popular 108 MP and quad cameras, which are installed even in low-cost devices, it does not look very good, but do not judge a candy only by its wrapper. Such a modest camera produces excellent photos and videos, processes them quickly and efficiently, handles with any shooting conditions and can compete even with expensive flagships. In fact, this is the same camera as the predecessor Pixel 4a 5G, but you shouldn’t scold for it — why change something that works well anyway?
"Hardware" without flaws
You can’t find fault with the “hardware” of the smartphone either: it is well balanced, and the manufacturer saved where possible without sacrificing quality. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor (like the Pixel 5) works like a well-oiled mechanism, without lags and overheating, quickly completing all the tasks assigned to it. There is support for 5G and an NFC chip that has already become a must-have for contactless payment for purchases. The battery capacity has increased to 4680 mAh, and this is enough for one or even two days of battery life. However charging is not as fast as we would like — 18 W, but the charger is included, and nowadays, thanks for that. Before buying, please note that the model is available only in one version with 6/128 GB of memory, but, alas, there is no slot for a memory card. Finally, what we love about “pixels” is pure Android, that is, without unnecessary shells, add-ons and ads. And most importantly, Google smartphones are among the first to receive operating system updates.
