What characteristics should good headphones have?Guide to key features of headphones
Model overview based on user reviews
The Sony MDR-7506 headphones are highly regarded for their exceptional sound quality, making them a staple in professional studios worldwide. Users praise their comfortable fit, even for extended periods, and their excellent noise isolation. The headphones are noted for their durability, with many users reporting years of reliable use. However, some mention that the non-removable cable and the vinyl ear pads can wear out over time, though replacements are available. The headphones deliver a balanced and detailed sound, ideal for mixing and mastering, but may not suit those seeking enhanced bass. While the price is considered high in some regions, the overall consensus is that the MDR-7506 offers great value for money due to their sound accuracy and build quality.

Easy to use, high-quality sound, soft pads, good noise insulation

The conclusion is clear - there are no competitors for your money. 371 and 840 are fragile.

The other headphones that I compared with the 7506:
AKG 701. Very good, wider soundstage, more airy sound. But they fit strangely, not very comfortable.
M50x. Complete garbage, don't even want to call them headphones. The highs turn into a sandy screech.
770. Fit even more comfortably, adjust more widely. But the sound is bad, the highs are too exaggerated. Not as bad as the M50x, but still the music turns into who knows what.
242. Very similar, but there's no soundstage, no depth. It's silly to compare them considering the price, it's clear what you're paying extra for.
Did not compare with the 599 - too warm, makes the head hot.
The adjustments are extensive, fitting both my average-sized head and the heads of all my friends and family. The fit is perfect. It's snug and tight, but my ears don't get tired at all, and glasses aren't a problem. The leatherette is very pleasant to the touch, soft yet firm. The sound insulation is fierce, you can't hear anything at all, even with very quiet music. The cable is very long, but stretching it is inconvenient; the length acts more as a safeguard against pulls.
I found only two obvious disadvantages - a non-removable cable and a stupid folding mechanism, because of which they tend to fold on themselves.

The iconic model of monitor “ears” from Sony has been the flagship in the niche for three decades, competing for the championship with its equally famous competitor Sennheiser HD 280 PRO. In fact, the models are almost identical in characteristics, with the only difference being that Sony is more compact and… more popular.

The flagship is in your hands

The popularity of the model plays both a plus and a minus. There are many fakes on the market, so you need to be careful and choose trusted stores for purchase.

In terms of ergonomics, the headphones deserve praise. They fit tightly, cut off all external noise, and fold compactly into the branded soft case included in the kit.

I was a bit disappointed by the vinyl ear pads, which wear out quickly from intensive use. But you can order new ones, as well as almost any other part of the headphones. The box even shows a diagram of how to change things. The twisted long cable (3 m) looks reliable, which is confirmed by long-term use, but it would be better if it were removable.

Real sound

MDR-7506 are widely used in dubbing films and TV shows, where openness of the sound stage with pronounced detailing of mid and high frequencies is important. But if you need to get a "killer" bass from them, it is enough to connect to an amplifier with equalization or a software player. The headphones really sound very comfortable for many, which is the reason for their high popularity.

Sony MDR-7506 is an unsinkable cruiser in the fleet of monitor headphones. 25 years of successful sailing in the vastness of the music market is a worthy reason to choose this model.
