- relatively compact - travel case - autonomy - sound quality - ergonomics - multipoint for 2 devices - ANC - easily stained soft-touch plastic - not for big ears |
bought second-hand for both phone and PC if you use the Sonarworks Reference 4 Systemwide program on a PC the sound becomes very good better than on the phone but provided that you have a more or less good sound card Sound, ANC, LDAC ears do not hurt after many hours as in Sony MDR-7510 There is no moisture protection, on plastics all slime and stains remain and are very noticeable |
I previously purchased the Soundcore Life Q30. They were quite worth their price -- durable, decent sound quality, mediocre ANC (the ANC slightly clogged the ears), and a large-capacity battery. I used them for a while and then decided to go for the XM4. XM4: lighter, more compact, with pleasant sound quality, awesome ANC, doesn't clog the ears. I haven't found the speak-to-talk feature useful yet, but you can quickly switch and test it, maybe it will grow on me (you need to hold 2 fingers for 1 second). I don't use Quick attention -- it's inconvenient to hold my hand, and pressing the button once isn't difficult (Ambient sound). I quickly got used to touch controls. My ears sweat (and it's not even a hot day yet). I'm not sure how the sensors will work in the winter. ANC doesn't cut out 100% of any noise (I think it's not possible currently), but I haven't used more effective ANC. There is a slight but noticeable white noise when using ANC in a quiet environment -- I think this means ANC is designed for noisy environments (where the user won't notice the background white noise), and there's good passive isolation for quiet environments. Interestingly regarding the material, either due to this material alone or thanks to it paired with ANC, there's significantly less noise when using the headphones under a hood made of sturdy material. The brackets don't stick out above the ears, the cups envelop the ears and are quite compact for such functionality, battery life, and passive isolation. LDAC. At the very least, it slightly falls short of a wired connection in a superficial comparison and noticeably surpasses SBC. 1. ANC. 2. Weight, soft-touch material, fairly compact design. 3. LDAC (Android 8+ still does not guarantee its support, note). 4. Duration of operation. 5. Pleasantly scented in the box (material of the cups and ear pads) (some people like this too, yes). 1. Extremely short charging cable, literally 10-15 cm. When charging with it, the headphones should not only lie next to the USB port, but actually "face" port to port. 2. I like the hard case, but it could be at least slightly more spacious. 3. The soft padding of the headband bends (not plastic), but it's rather firm. My crown always aches when wearing new headphones for a long time, but over time I get used to it (either the padding softens, or both). If this is important and familiar to you, these will also make your crown ache. 4. (possibly dictated by internal construction or functionality) The openings at the top of the cups have padding inside made of such fine mesh that it won't let water through. But I don't want to test it, so it's advisable to protect them from even a small amount of rain (a hood, umbrella). |
The Legend of Noise Cancelling Headphones
The Sony WH-1000XM4 have earned a reputation as the benchmark for active noise-cancelling over-ear headphones. These headphones offer great value for money, combining outstanding sound, excellent noise-cancelling, and a host of features that have helped Sony become a market leader. They remain a top seller to this day, with many competitors trying to position their new products as Sony XM4 killers.
Noise cancellation system that sets standards
The key feature of the model is adaptive sound control with Smart Listening and Ambient Mode, which automatically adjust the level of noise cancellation depending on the environment. ANC works at an exceptional level, allowing you to enjoy music even in the noisiest places, such as the subway, trains or planes. Support for LDAC codecs (in addition to AAC and SBC) and built-in DSP provide rich and detailed sound suitable for various musical genres, from instrumental music to electronics. However, JBL fans may find that the bass is a little lacking.
Innovations in convenience and speed
The average battery life is about 30 hours, and fast charging provides up to 5 hours of operation in just 10 minutes of charging. Additional benefits include integration with Alexa and Google Assistant voice assistants, NFC for quick pairing with devices, and a Speak-to-Chat function that pauses playback when the user starts talking. This allows you to not take off the headphones during a conversation. However, one of the drawbacks is not the highest comfort during long-term use - the ear pads, although large, may not provide the desired comfort, especially in the heat, which leads to rapid ear fatigue. In this aspect, the XM4 are inferior to the Sennheiser Momentum 4, B&W PX7 / PX8 and especially the Bose QuietComfort Ultra.

However, all these disadvantages, for me, are easily outweighed by their sound, autonomy, ergonomics, and excellent noise canceling.
