Clamshell phones
Folding body
— flip phones, also known as clamshells. Such a body consists of two halves, which, when used, open like shell valves; the main screen is located on the upper half, the keyboard is on the lower half. The design may also include a small external screen that allows user to see important information (for example, the caller's number) without opening the phone.This layout is well suited for traditional phones (not smartphones) with a numeric keypad: both the screen and the keys can be made quite large, and the body (when folded) will still remain compact. But for smartphones, it is more convenient to use single-block bodies, so there are practically no “clamshells” among them (more precisely, there is a special kind of design — a foldable screen; it is described in the relevant paragraph).
