Unlike the assortment of other manufacturers, the range of drives from Western Digital is divided not by type, but rather by class. This is most clearly seen in the WD Black premium gaming series, in which you can equally successfully purchase a pumped SATA SSD, an advanced NVMe SSD connected via the PCI-E 4.0 bus, a designer external drive, or a completely unusual SSD made in the form of an HHHL expansion card. The main requirement is to meet the highest quality requirements on all fronts, giving the gaming computer the highest possible speed.
By the end of 2021, the WD Black portfolio will be dominated by the now classic M.2 SSDs, which are popular in both desktops and laptops due to their compact size. Some of them work on the PCI-E 3.0 bus, newer ones have already switched to the fourth version. But in both cases, serious speeds are provided up to 3500 MB / s for linear write and read operations, or up to 500K IOPS for random operation. The production uses 64-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory of our own production, flagship Phison controllers and additional buffer RAM chips. Some drives like the WD Black SN750 are additionally equipped with a cooling radiator.
In addition to conventional drives, the Black series has some very interesting external options that can be used as a super-fast backup storage or as a second drive for a game console. The most interesting option in this class will be the stylish WD Black P50, which is sealed in a black metal case, designed in the style of an ammo box. Against the background of most external SSDs, the WD Black P50 uses a modern data exchange interface and can provide data transfer speeds up to 2000 MB / s. And its volume can reach 4 TB, and this is enough even for a very large collection of games.
