AMD Ryzen 5 8600G is the most affordable APU with a neural module to accelerate AI tasks. The built-in Radeon 760M graphics isn’t limited by memory capacity, which is often an issue for discrete graphics cards. The user can install up to four non-binary RAM modules for a total of 192 GB, enabling local runs of large language models in LM Studio (Gemma, Mistral, Qwen, Deep Seek).
Five gigahertz
Six Zen 4 cores support twelve SMT threads and can automatically boost up to 5 GHz. However, when the integrated graphics and the neural processor are loaded at the same time, the frequency drops. Unlike Ryzen 7000 and 9000 series CPUs, the 88 W TDP on this model can’t be raised with Precision Boost Overdrive, because the 8600G operates like mobile CPUs with a strict power limit.
No solder
That said, it’s better to skip the Box version with the Wraith Stealth cooler, since with it the CPU heats up to 95 °C due to thermal paste being used instead of solder under the heatspreader. Minor downsides also include only 16 MB of cache and the PCIe 4.0 x8 interface limit. That said, modern mid-range graphics cards, such as the GeForce RTX 5050, 5060, and 5060 Ti, also use eight PCI-Express lanes.
