The “insides” of the model are formed by an optical scheme consisting of 13 elements in 8 groups. To minimize chromatic aberrations, special SLD elements are used here, and aspherical lenses are used to reduce reflections and glare. Also under the hood of the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art is a fast ultrasonic Hyper Sonic Motor autofocus drive.
The model demonstrates excellent sharpness from open apertures and draws beautiful artistic bokeh. The minimum focus distance for it is claimed in the range of 40 cm. When focus, the elements of the optical scheme of the lens move inside the body, which means it does not change dimensions and provides the ability to install filters (77 mm) on the front lens. Fix weight is 815 grams, length — 100 mm, diameter — 85 mm. The lens is available in versions for the Canon EF, Nikon F and Sony A “running” SLR systems, as well as the “native” Sigma SA.

The lens stands out for its resolution, especially when compared to Nikon's 50mm offerings, and is comparable to more expensive lenses like the 85mm f/1.4 and 105mm f/1.4 in terms of resolution.

If you have a camera with a resolution of 30 MP or more and you still need fifty dollars, then this lens is suitable for you. I have been looking closely and asking the price for this lens for a long time since its release in 2014. I bought it in the summer of 2019. Sharpness, resolution, bokeh - everything is at the highest level. I didn’t need a docking station; I made do with the in-camera autofocus fine adjustment on the Nikon D800. The lens is heavy, but not heavier than 24-70G, and grippy. Nikon has no comparable analogues in terms of resolution among 50 mm lenses. Among other focal lengths, similar resolution is provided by the expensive 85 f 1.4; 105 f 1.4, etc. Focus, contrast, resolution, color rendering - all excellent. Minimal distortion and chromatic aberrations. Sharpness at f 1.4. Lack of dust-moisture-proof seal on the mount. The aperture drive is mechanical, morally and technically outdated, as in Nikkor lenses of the D and G series. Why not make an electromagnetic drive like in the E series or all Canon lenses?
