Smartphones with a notch (with a cutout)
Notch (cutout)
— smartphones that have a signature notch at the top of the screen — a protrusion, as if "hanging" on the display. In other words, the device looks as if a screen was installed in it, reaching the upper end of the case, and then a cutout was made on top of this screen for the front camera, earpiece and additional sensors. The main advantage of smartphones with notch can be called a signature appearance. Also, such a design allows you to slightly increase the usable area of the screen, but this advantage is very conditional. Firstly, the protruding notch limits the ability to display a full-screen "picture"; secondly, other specific form factors (teardrop camera, retractable, in-display) still provide a large usable screen area (with the same screen size) and allow you to work with a full-format image with almost no restrictions.
Also note that the fashion for screens with a “notch” was actually introduced by the iPhone X released in 2017. Therefore, models with this feature are sometimes called “iPhone clones”, but this is not entirely correct — most of them are completely independent devices similar to the latest models of the iPhone only by the presence of notch.
