There is no headphone output. No matrix stabilization. The touch screen only works in spot focus mode.

Ambitious mirrorless camera from the middle price division of cameras with interchangeable lenses. Externally, the model is almost indistinguishable from colleagues in the "six thousandth" workshop, and inside it is installed the usual cropped matrix with a resolution of 24 MP. The prerogative of matrix stabilization was left to the older model Sony A6500. Of the improvements in the camera, a 425-point automatic focus system with face and eye tracking bothers to pay close attention.

As stated in the "passport" Sony A6400 kit 18-135, autofocus catches the subject in a record short time of about 0.02 seconds. Another innovation is the full tap control on the touch screen (previously it was truncated). It is also proposed to compose the frame by looking through the "peephole" of the electronic viewfinder. Videos on the camera are recorded in the maximum resolution of 4K at 30 fps. For video, information is read from the entire plane of the matrix and support for S-Log2, S-Log3, HLG image profiles. The level of battery life of the mirrorless is quite average “in the ward” — 400 shots on a single charge of the NP-FW50 battery. The camera comes with a stabilized Sony SEL-18-135mm F3.5-5.6 OSS kit lens.

Video reviews

Sony's 6,000th series of mirrorless cameras has ruled the APS-C camera scene almost since it hit its feet in 2014. Since then, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge, but the products of the six thousandth line are still in demand among both photographers and videographers.

Base link

The base model of the series as of 2020 is the A6400 camera. It has the usual 24 MP cropped matrix, uses a 425-point automatic focus system, and features focus on faces and eyes. This is just a small part of the trump card up the sleeve of the model. At the same time, it captivates with developed ergonomics, a comfortable grip in the hand, a wide dynamic range of shots, which allows you to extract a high-quality result from RAW files when shooting in conditions on the verge of a foul.

Frame composition

For sighting during the construction of the frame, it is proposed to use the "eye" of the electronic viewfinder or the touch screen of a 3-inch diagonal. Unfortunately, tapping on it opens up access to the choice of focus point and only some settings. But the screen is mounted on an inclined hinge, which simplifies the composition of the frame from atypical angles.

Video capabilities

For video makers, the Sony A6400 offers 4K video recording with S-Log and HLG profiles. The video sequence is written from the entire plane of the matrix at a frame rate of 30 fps. In burst mode, the camera accelerates to 11 fps with a memory buffer capacity of 46 RAW shots. Mirrorless is not suitable for professionals only because of the lack of a headphone output. For the genre of video blogging and taking photos, there is no better option in the price category of the camera, and even with whale optics 18-135 mm.
