3G modem

Such equipment significantly expands the freedom of movement: it allows you to access the Internet from any place where there is an appropriate mobile coverage. At the same time, the term "3G", usually, refers to UMTS networks that are common in Europe and the post-Soviet space — in other words, the same networks that mobile phones operate in these regions. Such connection supports data transfer rates from 2 Mbps to 70 Mbps (depending on the technologies implemented in particular network); In fact, this means that from the user's point of view, Internet access over 3G connection is often indistinguishable from Wi-Fi or LAN connection. At the same time, it is worth noting that more advanced standards are gradually replacing 3G communications — primarily LTE 4G (see the relevant paragraph). Therefore, the 3G modem in modern laptops is practically not used as separate function — it is usually provided as an addition to the 4G connection (more precisely, the 4G modem also provides 3G compatibility).
