Unlike the original Gaming series, which included mostly mid-level models, for the MPG line, MSI collects rather near-prototype motherboards for really powerful gaming assemblies. The capabilities of these boards fully meet the needs of 95% of video game fans, the remaining 5% include overclocking fans who need enhanced cooling or some specific features of HEDT boards.
In terms of equipment and layout, MPG boards are direct competitors of the Gigabyte Aorus, Asus ROG Strix and ASRock Extreme series. The most popular are MPG Gaming Plus and MPG Carbon boards, which are most often built on the basis of the flagship Intel Z590/AMD X570 chipsets or their earlier versions. These boards are equipped with serious 12 – to 14-phase power subsystems with VRM cooling, additional radiators, Japanese capacitors and advanced circuitry that allows the board to keep a stable overclocking of a Ryzen 7 or Core i7 multi-core processor.
As for connections, in 99% of cases, a gentleman's set of MPG boards includes 2-3 slots for video cards with the ability to work together (SLI/Crossfire), 4 DDR4 slots, a pair of M ports.2 with cooling, a top-end Realtek ALC4080 audio chip, a specialized network controller with increased bandwidth and, of course, rich possibilities for installing illumination inside the case. In some models of the 2020-21 year of release (for example, MPG Z590 GAMING EDGE), support for the fourth-generation PCI-E bus has been added, with which you can noticeably speed up data exchange between computer components.
