In many LCDs, the backlight has fixed, unadjustable brightness, and the actual screen brightness is adjusted by having the backlight flicker at certain frequency; at the same time, the lower the brightness, the longer the intervals between flashes. This flicker is imperceptible to the naked eye, but it is believed that it still affects the nervous system and increases fatigue. To avoid this, some monitors provide the Flicker Free system. In such screens, the backlight works constantly in any mode, and its brightness changes due to voltage changes. This makes working behind the monitor more comfortable.
