The action of different parts takes place in different parts of the globe and at different times, but within the same conditional game universe (although without a direct connection with each other, with the exception of Far Cry 5 and its sequel Far Cry New Dawn). One of the distinguishing features of Far Cry is the open game world with vast spaces, giving the player a lot of freedom of action and many options for completing various tasks (the only exception is the Paradise Lost spin-off for slot machines, with a completely linear mechanics).In total, as of the end of 2019, the series includes 13 titles — 5 main numbered games released for PC and relevant at the time of release of the PS and Xbox versions, as well as 8 spin-offs and add-ons.
