Resident Evil

— the famous survival horror game series developed by Capcom. Players must fight hordes of zombies and monsters that have emerged as a result of experiments with biological weapons. The gameplay is usually third-person action, less often first-person, with the ability to pick up various additional items that often play an important role in the progression.

The first title in the series was released back in 1996, and by 2019 the series includes 9 main games (plus several remakes) and about a dozen and a half spin-offs. Overall, Resident Evil is considered one of the benchmarks of the genre, with the original series spawning an extensive media franchise and proving so successful that many parts have been re-released on new platforms multiple times. For instance, Resident Evil 4, originally released in 2005 for PS2, has undergone as many as 8 re-releases — including for PS4 and Xbox One in 2018 and for Nintendo Switch a year later. As of 2019, the latest game in the series is Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, released in 2017 for PS, Windows, and Xbox, and in 2018 for Switch; it somewhat deviates from the style of previous parts and places the player in a confined space, forcing them to find a way out of an abandoned mansion.
