The action takes place after the events of the original literary cycle (the first game is set five years after the end of the last book). As in the source material, the setting of "The Witcher" does not have a strict division between good and evil; many events and actions of the characters are driven not by lofty ideals but by rather pragmatic and even down-to-earth motives.
