— games for the PlayStation 4 is the eighth generation of consoles, which is the fourth family of desktop game consoles from Sony. This family was introduced in 2013 (original PS4) and expanded in 2016 (Pro and Slim versions, as well as the PlayStation VR virtual reality system). Despite the high processing power, PS4 is promoted solely as gaming devices, and not as media centers (unlike direct competitor from Microsoft — Xbox One). Simultaneously with the PS4, the new DualShock 4 gamepad was introduced, earlier gamepads are not supported by the console, although, of course, compatibility with the motion-sensitive PS Move controllers has not gone away.

From a software point of view, the key innovation was the elimination of regional locks: you can access and play the digital library of purchased games regardless of the location of the player and on any PS4. On the other hand, multiplayer has become paid — by subscription PSN Plus (with the exception of individual games). There is no backward compatibility with older PS games.
