— a series of hack’n’slash games (action games primarily using melee weapons) developed and published by Capcom (except for DmC: Devil May Cry in 2013 — see below). The storyline revolves around a demon hunter named Dante fighting hordes of monsters from Hell; Dante himself is a half-demon, which grants him supernatural abilities. The games in the series are notable for combining spectacular battles with the need to solve various puzzles. Additionally, Dante himself is one of the most stylish characters in video games. The first game in the series was released back in 2001 for the PS2 and has been re-released twice — in 2012 for the current versions of PS and Xbox, and in 2018 for these platforms plus Windows. By the end of 2019, six games had been released in the series — 5 parts of the main series plus DmC: Devil May Cry, which was presented between parts 4 and 5. DmC was an attempt to reboot the franchise, with Capcom only responsible for distribution, while development was entrusted to Ninja Theory. The result of this collaboration drew serious criticism from both reviewers and fans — particularly due to the significantly changed appearance of the main character. Ultimately, Capcom abandoned the reboot and continued the original line, releasing Devil May Cry 5.
