— a series of hack'n'slash games developed and published by Capcom (with the exception of 2013's DmC: Devil May Cry — see below). The plot is based on the struggle of a demon hunter named Dante with hordes of monsters from Hell; while Dante is a half-demon himself, which gives him supernatural abilities. The games in the series are notable for the combination of spectacular battles with the need to solve various puzzles. In addition, Dante himself is one of the most stylish characters in video games. The first game in the series was released back in 2001 for PS2 and went through two re-releases — in 2012 for the current versions of PS and Xbox, and in 2018 for these platforms plus Windows. In total, at the end of 2019, six games were released in the series — 5 parts of the main series plus DmC: Devil May Cry, presented between 4 and 5 parts. DmC was an attempt to restart the franchise, while Capcom was responsible only for distribution, and development was entrusted to Ninja Theory. The result of this collaboration caused serious criticism from both observers and fans — in particular, due to the significantly changed appearance of the protagonist. As a result, Capcom abandoned the reboot and continued the original line with Devil May Cry 5.
