Grand Theft Auto (GTA)

— an iconic series of games in a combined genre that blends action and racing in an open world. It allows the player to take on the role of a criminal — usually, the character starts as a "small-time crook" and climbs higher in the criminal hierarchy as they complete storyline missions. In addition to these missions, there are also side missions (including purely entertaining activities not directly related to gaining in-game benefits). Each game takes place in a fully detailed city where the player can move freely (although access to some areas may be restricted by the storyline), choose main and side missions, search for hidden items and various Easter eggs. As the name suggests, the game allows you to steal almost any vehicle — including boats, aircraft, and even trains. If desired, players can earn in-game money not only through criminal activities but also through legitimate work — such as being an ambulance driver, firefighter, courier, etc.; in many games, work provides not only money but also important in-game bonuses (such as increased maximum health). Games in the GTA series consistently enjoy popularity among players and success with critics, although the abundance of violence and sexual themes often causes controversy. As of the end of 2019, the series includes 11 titles, two of which are only for mobile platforms, one for mobile devices and PlayStation, and another one only for PS. The newest parts of the game — GTA IV and GTA V, released in 2008 and 2013 respectively, are available for PC, PS, and Xbox (with the fifth part released simultaneously for Xbox 360 and Xbox One). It is also worth noting that as of 2018, GTA V became the third best-selling title in the history of video games.
