Mafia

— a popular series of games of a combined genre that combines a third-person shooter with a car simulator. According to the general principles of the game, it is similar to the equally famous GTA series — in particular, the action takes place in an open world in the form of a city and its environs, numerous vehicles are available, most of which can be stolen or otherwise obtained, and the game character rotates in a criminal around the world and is predominantly engaged in illegal activities. However, Mafia is still noticeably different both in atmosphere and in the more strict linearity of the plot (although the games in this series also contain optional side quests). The action takes place in a retro setting (the Great Depression in the first part, the post-war period in the subsequent ones), and the main character, usually, in the course of the action is somehow disappointed in the mafia lifestyle.

For 2019, the series includes three main (numbered) games available on PC, PS and Xbox, as well as two mobile titles and several DLCs for Mafia II and Mafia III. All of the major games have been acclaimed for their ambiance and overall storytelling, but the overall score from critics and most fans declines from the first to the third installment.
