— a series of games predominantly from Ubisoft, which includes mainly tactical and stealth shooters in the modern setting and the near future (although there are other genres, including strategy and arcade flight simulators). Consists of several sub-series. Despite the name, most of the games have very little (if anything) to do with the works of famed political thriller author Tom Clancy; and almost nothing is known about his personal contribution to the creation of various games. The only sub-series based on Clancy's original novels is Rainbow Six, other games with books are united only by the general atmosphere.

Actually, Rainbow Six is one of the most famous and at the same time extensive sub-series in the Tom Clancy's family of games. For 2019, it includes 14 main titles (the 15th is expected in 2020), not counting add-ons; the newest game in the series is 2015's Rainbow Six Siege, which uses an online multiplayer format. All games are tactical team-based first-person shooters dedicated to the operations of the multinational anti-terrorist squad "Rainbow"; The action takes place mainly in urban conditions at close distances.

The second popular sub-series of a similar genre (team tactical shooter) is Ghost Recon. Here the characters are closer to reality: the player controls a detachment of fighters from the US Army Special Forces. Battles, unlike Rainbow Six, take place mainly in open areas and fairly large distances.

Another sub-series that is relevant nowadays is The Division; for 2019, two parts plus various additions were released. The game is an open-world multiplayer action-RPG in which the player takes on the role of a special agent investigating massive smallpox outbreaks in major US cities — New York in the first part and Washington in the second. As a result of these outbreaks, cities have turned into disaster zones, and the task of agents is both to investigate the sources of epidemics, and to restore order and fight crime. The main game format is cooperative, but there is also a special PvP multiplayer mode.

In addition to these sub-series, the Splinter Cell line deserves special mention — 7 main stealth action games that have received critical acclaim and awards from players. However, the newest of the games in the series at the end of 2019 dates back to 2013, and information about the continuation of Splinter Cell is limited to unconfirmed rumors.
