— a series of action-adventure games with third-person shooter elements, telling the story of Lara Croft — an adventurer and explorer of ancient structures. The first Tomb Raider became one of the pioneers of the action-adventure genre, and the main character remains one of the most recognizable video game characters of all time.Gameplay in most games of the series is based on exploring ruins, tombs, and dungeons, and searching for ancient artifacts. To successfully progress, the player must skillfully avoid deadly traps, confront enemies (sometimes immortal), and use ingenuity to solve puzzles, ranging from the simplest to quite complex. Some key gameplay elements change from game to game: in early titles, the plot and levels were linear, while in the latest games, the player has more freedom — up to a fully open world; sometimes enemies are specific creatures, sometimes the main adversary is nature itself; some games include stealth mechanics, and so on. However, two aspects remain unchanged: the extensive use of puzzles (often "stretched" over a significant part of the level) and jumping across chasms and between surfaces at different levels, giving the games some resemblance to platformers.
The series has been released since 1996, and during this time it has undergone two reboots — in 2006 and 2013. A total of 12 main games and approximately the same number of spin-offs have been released under the Tomb Raider brand. As of 2019, titles from the second reboot — Tomb Raider 2013, Rise of the Tomb Raider 2015, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider 2015 — can be found for desktop platforms. All these games are available on PC, PS, and Xbox.
