The series is set in a cosmic future where humanity must confront an alliance of alien races known as the Covenant. The protagonist of most games is "Master Chief", John-117, one of the super soldiers created by the Spartan programme; he is accompanied by an assistant, the artificial intelligence "Cortana" (this is where Microsoft took the name for the real Windows voice assistant).The Halo series is released primarily for PC (Windows) and Xbox consoles, some titles are also available on mobile devices, but the PlayStation is not supported in principle. Actually, the main platform for the game is just the Xbox; the first part, Halo: Combat Evolved (2001), became one of the best titles for this console and is still considered almost the standard of fantastic console shooters in both single player campaign and multiplayer. In total, for 2019, 5 main games were released in the series (the sixth is expected in 2020) and 8 spin-offs, including two parts of Halo Wars in the strategy genre.
