Sonic

— a series of games about the adventures of Sonic, an anthropomorphic hedgehog who, among other things, is the mascot of the Sega company that publishes these games. The main games of the series are platformers (see "Genres — Adventure") with an absolutely linear plot in which Sonic and his friends have to save the world from the intrigues of various enemies, primarily the evil genius Dr. Eggman (Robotnik). Among the spin-offs there are games in other genres — car racing, fighting games, etc.

The main character — Sonic — received a name for the ability to move at supersonic speed; a quick roll-up dash is one of his "signature" attacks. Sonic is one of the most popular and recognizable characters in video games, he has repeatedly ranked first in various relevant ratings. In some spin-offs, the player has to take control of other characters, including the "dark version" of Sonic — an anti-hero named Shadow.

Most of the main games in the series have received high marks for both the atmosphere and fast-paced gameplay, which is characterized by high speed. The franchise became so successful that it is still Sega's main source of income and is one of the top ten best-selling game series in history.
